Mount Emei

One of China's Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains — cloud seas, ancient temples, and a golden summit at 3,079m where sunrise breaks through the clouds.

About Mount Emei

Mount Emei is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, and its cultural significance spans 2,000 years. The mountain's 30+ Buddhist temples, connected by stone paths through primeval forest, form a pilgrimage route from the base to the Golden Summit at 3,079m. At the top, a 48-meter golden statue of Samantabhadra (Puxian) catches the first sunlight through a sea of clouds — one of the most transcendent sunrise experiences in China. The mountain is also home to Tibetan macaques (monkeys) that are aggressive, charming, and will steal your snacks. Most visitors ride a bus to Leidongping, hike 1.5 hours, then take the cable car to the summit.
