深圳
From fishing village to megacity in 40 years — China's Silicon Valley, a playground of theme parks, and the world's hardware capital.
Shenzhen is the city that proves China can build anything in a hurry. In 1980 it was a fishing village of 30,000 people. Today it's a megacity of 17 million, home to Tencent, Huawei, DJI, and the world's electronics markets. Huaqiangbei is the planet's densest concentration of hardware stalls — where every component, gadget, and prototype is for sale. Beyond tech, Shenzhen has surprising green space: Lianhua Mountain park, the Mangrove Nature Reserve, and Dapeng Fortress on the coast. It's also the gateway to Hong Kong via a 15-minute high-speed rail ride.
