Harbin

China's ice city — the world's largest ice sculpture festival and Russian-influenced architecture.

About Harbin

Harbin is China's winter capital, and it's unlike anywhere else in the country. For six weeks each January-February, Ice and Snow World transforms the city into a frozen fantasyland — full-scale buildings, castles, and sculptures carved from blocks of ice taken from the frozen Songhua River, illuminated in neon at night. The city itself has a strong Russian influence: Saint Sophia Cathedral, cobblestone Zhongyang Street, and borscht on the menu. If you think you've seen all of China, Harbin will surprise you.
